Neighbourhood of crafstmen, once bucolic before the big post-war constructions, it still holds islands of nature that are much appreciated by artists.

L’Hermitage, a island of nature at the heart of Ménilmontant

Once specialized in leather, this land saw the birth of the workers cooperatives, among them the famous “Bellevilloise”. It kept back from them the spirit of freedom. Today a lot of artists live and work in the neighbourhood, some of them are street art artists. Sung by Trenet, this neighbourhood is also the birth place of the parisian “titi” model, Maurice Chevalier.
